If we had to vanish tomorrow, what would we want as our legacy?
When Randy Pausch, a computer science professor at Carnegie Mellon, was asked to give such a lecture, he didnt have to imagine it as his last, since he had recently been diagnosed with terminal cancer. But the lecture he gave, Really Achieving Your Childhood Dreams, wasnt about dying. It was about the importance of overcoming obstacles, of enabling the dreams of others, of seizing every moment (because time is all you have and you may find one day that you have less than you think). It was a summation of everything Randy had come to believe. It was about living.
Book Review:
Not gonna lie, I did not enjoy reading The Last Lecture by Randy Pausch as much as I thought I would. I really had to drag myself to finish this book. I was honestly looking for some thought-provoking read.
I don’t mean any dishonor to the writer and the life he lived. He did a wonderful job acknowledging his life and carefully crafting his last few months and years. Who am I to judge?
Coming back to this book. The book is majorly the author, Randy Pausch, sharing about his early childhood days, how he achieved his dreams & goals, how he fell in love, etc. Which is all great! I’ve loved reading books about a person’s life. But I did not find anything relatable here. I did not find any answers or questions either. It just is a book full of his stories.
Would I recommend this Book?
To sum up, it is a book you can read to know more about Randy Pausch, about how he prepared and directed his final.. Last Lecture. It is not going to be a life-changing book or a thought-provoking one (in my opinion).
Saying that, I really feel awful writing this review about a man who lost his life. The Last Lecture by Randy Pausch is a nice read, and Randy sure was a cheerful and awesome man. But the book doesn’t necessarily have to be, does it?
