Rajadhiraaj Theatre Play Review – Is a ₹5000 Theatre Ticket Worth It?
From hesitation to spend thousands, to literally having goosebumps watching the performance. Here’s my experience of Rajadhiraaj at The Grand Theatre - NMACC, Mumbai.

The ₹5000 Dilemma - Is Rajaadhiraj Play worth it?
Not gonna lie.. my thumb hovered over the payment button for a full two minutes.
Five thousand rupees for a single evening. In Mumbai, that kind of money can buy a quiet weekend getaway, a ridiculous amount of beverages, or groceries for half a month. Theatre has always had my heart. But to spend ₹5000 for a couple of hours in a seat felt indulgent.
And I was lowkey terrified of what my parents would say when they found out about this spending. So I did the next best thing. I booked seats for them as well!
Stepping Into another World of Rajaadhiraj
The Grand Theatre at the NMACC IS so grand that you feel the grandeur. But none of that foyer glamour prepares you for the moment the lights dim and the stage awakens.
Within ten minutes, I forgot about the ₹5000.
Most of us grow up with stories of Krishna folded into bedtime tales. We know the boy who stole butter; we know the charioteer delivering hard truths.. life lessons.. on a battlefield. But sitting there, watching this breathing canvas unfold, felt less like hearing an old story and more like living within the story.
Love. Life. Leela - A Feast of Sound, Silk, and Spectacle
The stage design by Omung Kumar moved like memory itself. Palaces rise and dissolve, forests rustle, and rivers seem to swallow the horizon. Hats off to the backend team who make the entire set change feel so smooth as it it was as easy as breathing.
There’s a scene where the sheer scale of the visuals knocked the breath clean out of my lungs. It was pure wonder. All I can do now is remember and marvel at how HUGE the entire production was. The kind you usually only feel when looking up at a night sky far away from the city.
The music rhythm by SACHIN - JIGAR of Haveli Sangeet mixes with orchestral crescendos, carrying Prasoon Joshi’s words so beautifully that you forget to blink. If I have to summarise the feeling in one sentence.. it would be - the feeling of longing, duty, and surrender. Neeta Lulla’s silks catch the light like liquid gold, giving every movement an effortless divinity.
By the time the story traced Krishna’s journey toward Shrinathji, anchoring into faith and devotion, I could feel the air in the hall thick with emotion.I looked around in the dark. Beside me, a stranger had tears tracing silent paths down their cheeks. My parents were holding their breath. They has a sparkle in their eyes.Nobody was checking their phones. Nobody was fidgeting. Two thousand people were holding their breath together, tethered to the same quiet heartbeat.
Final thoughts: Is Rajadhiraaj worth watching?
Let me ask you this - How often do you actually share goosebumps with an entire room full of strangers?
If you get the chance to watch it, pease go with your parents. Let it sweep you off your feet.
