What is it about?
Main Tenu Phir Milangi: Story of Sahir Ludhianvi, Amrita Pritam, and Imroz
Performed by Laksh Maheshwari
Language: Hindi |Storytelling
Amrita Pritam ke baare me suna hi hoga? Main Tenu Phir Milangi is a show by Laksh Maheshwari where he takes his audience back to a 1940s complicated love story. Amrita Pritam, Sahir Ludhianvi, and Imroz were all a part of a complex love story.
This show explores their love triangle, showing how their lives were and how each relationship progressed. Laksh Maheshwari will make you live their story as he takes you through various instances which makes Amrita Pritam’s story the greatest love story of all times. A story where three people who were entangled among each other with an invisible string of love.
My Experience
Amrita Pritma’s story is one of the most heartbreaking stories I’ve ever heard of. And to have Laksh Maheshwari narrate in a beautiful musical by Avishah Gupta was a cherry on the cake.
He holds the audience attentive from the minute he starts narrating till the very end. He has that magic, that brilliance in his voice. He knows when/what to speak softy, and when to be loud. I am a fan of his voice modulation skill!
The switch between story-telling, shayaris, poems and singing related songs was flawless and on point! You can’t help but feel the pain, the helplessness and love of this tragic story. I learned so much about songs written by Sahir Ludhianvi (which I used to sing absent-mindedly) and how it broke my heart to know they were for Amrita Pritam.
Storytelling is not an easy thing to do. Try narrating any one incident of yours to a stranger and watch how disinterested they will be within minutes.
For anyone who is unaware about this timeless love story, you are in for a treat. And just in case you do know about Amrita Pritam, Imroz and Sahir, you still are going to enjoy this beautiful storytelling session. I knew about them, yet I went for the show when I saw Laksh is in the city performing.
By the end of the show, you learn the meaning/story behind the infamous poetry, Main Tenu Phir Milangi and it will break your heart all over again.
Also, must I mention that he has a very charming smile and a beautiful voice!
Thoughts/Questions I had after the show
One thing I absolutely love about Laksh Maheshwari is that he loves his work. You can see it in his eyes. He is meant to do this. He is happy.. beyond happy to do this.
I had so many emotions once the show ended. When people started leaving the room, no one spoke a word. Everybody was silent and had tears in their eyes. Perhaps remembering the ones they once loved dearly.
Loving someone selflessly is not easy. It takes madness for one to love as fiercely as Imroz loved Amrita. It takes courage to love someone after a failed love affair. It takes courage to love someone madly even when you know things might not end the way you want them to end.
As complex as love can be, it can be simpler only if you have the strength to make hard choices. Amrita Pritam, a bold unapologetic woman lived her life with many heartbreaks, but she lived her life the way she wanted to. She didn’t give a dime to what society has to say. Maybe this is what happens when you fall in love. You don’t care about anything else/anyone else in the world.
And as Laksh said during the show, “vo pyaar hi kya jo maut ke pehle marr jae”.
But I do have one point to make. Don’t get stuck in your past so much that you can’t even acknowledge your present. Sahir was Amrita’s past. And Imroz, her present.
In the end, we all leave this beautiful place. We move on from this life leaving behind our loved ones. And we all hope for the same thing – may we will meet again. I will meet you again. Main Tenu Phir Milangi.
